What’s the Best Encryption Software?

.!.

.!.

When it comes to high-end encryption software, it is difficult to judge what the best brands are. At such a high level, opinions are divergent, and the level of security afforded by all companies that rank among the top of their industry is about the same. If you are looking to find the best kind of encryption software available, there are a couple of important things to consider: the encryption algorithm and the encryption key.

A product that uses widely-accepted and time tested encryption algorithms is your best bet. Creating reliable and secure algorithms is very, very difficult. Many encryption algorithms have been developed over the years, but most have turned out to be flawed. In such cases, a security breach becomes simply a matter of time. Encryption algorithms that have stood the test of time include RSA and AES. Make sure that your encryption software provider uses these or another algorithm that is widely accepted the cryptographic community. Such standard encryption algorithms have resisted many different kinds of attacks and are the basis for the best encryption software available.

голова болит секс

Stay away from products that claim to be using originally developed encryption algorithms. There’s a chance that these have not been tested against attacks (vetted, in industry-speak) at all. Such ineffective algorithms will result in an ineffective security product. Make sure you check what kind of encryption formula a particular security software brand uses.

The effectiveness of a security algorithm depends in large part on its encryption key. This is the second consideration that you should make when choosing your encryption software brand.  The final security effectiveness of an encryption product comes from the length of its encryption key. The longer the key, the more secure the encryption.

Today, the processing speed and power of computers makes certain key lengths obsolete. A hacking method known as “brute force attacks” can break through a key in a matter of days. Brute force is a kind of attack whereby a hacker uses a cracking machine that attempts to guess what the key is by trying out all possible key combinations.

A 40-bit key can be cracked using brute force in 48 hours or less. In addition to length, obfuscation can also be used to increase the strength of a key. When you go shopping for encryption software, make sure that it has an encryption key of at least 128 bits. Considering the speed and power of today’s computers and hacking programs, that is the minimum length you should ask for.

One the best known names in encryption technology is the California-based company Pretty Good Protection, or PGP. PGP’s encryption was developed in the 1990s. Its original purpose was, allegedly, to help individuals living under oppressive regimes protect their personal information.

PGP gained some notoriety in 2003 when it was used by members of an Italian terrorist organization to protect sensitive information from police and government access. Due to PGP’s encryption software’s lack of a back door, police were unable to retrieve the information stored in the terrorists’ palm pilots.

Other well known brands include TrueCrypt

Best Backup Solutions and Tools for your PC

An absolute must when computing is implementing an effective backup solution. Regrettably, even though backup solutions are critical, many people still put implementing a backup solution off. This can lead to the loss or destruction of important, private information on your computer. Although backing up is viewed as tedious and time-consuming, it really is necessary. At Nextora, we can help you with your computer backup issues. Contact us

today to discuss the best backup solutions for you.

While burning data to a CD or DVD is the commonly thought of data backup solution, there are several more efficient options of personal data backups. External hard drives, home network-attached storage (NAS), and online storage are some of the various options available for backing up your business or personal PC. The following is a brief overview of some of the best backup solutions and tools for your business or personal PC. For more information, you can contact Nextora, based in San Diego. Computer Services are our specialty.

External Hard Drive

One simple backup solution is an external hard drive. External hard drives typically connect to your computer via USB or FireWire. A great external drive can cost several hundred dollars, but there are less expensive external drives available. They are beneficial in that they give you flexibility and eliminate the hassle of labeling, filing, and keeping track of media. Additionally, you can easily add to and delete from an external hard drive. There are several hard disk drives on the market, varying in capability, size, brand, and price.

backup-hard-drive

Network-Attached Storage

NAS is generally more expensive than purchasing an external hard drive, but NAS is very secure and it has the ability to backup an entire network as opposed to one computer. In brief, NAS is file-level computer data storage, or backup, connected to a computer network providing data access to network clients. The operating system, which is separate from your computer’s operating system, and other software on the NAS unit provide the functionality of data storage, file systems, access to various files, and management of files and all the functionalities. Contrary to popular belief, your computer’s performance will not decrease with a NAS unit because the file serving is done by the separate NAS server and not by the server responsible for doing other processing on your computer. The performance of NAS devices depends heavily on the speed of the network and on the amount of traffic on the network as well as the amount of cache memory on the NAS unit. NAS can be complex, so feel free to contact Nextora for assistance.

Online Backup Services

Another effective backup solution, which has become much more popular in recent years, is the use of an online backup service. Online Backup Services are simple, effective, easy and quick to set up, and generally cost efficient. They are definitely something you should investigate, particularly if you have the bandwidth. For either a monthly or annual fee, you can keep your important files on someone else’s server and not have to worry about any hardware.

Backup Software

Once you’ve decided which method you want to utilize for your backup solution, it is a good idea to obtain a software application to employ the solution for you automatically. Although software is not required in order to make use of your backup solution, having backup software will ease the pressure off you and make backup easier. For example, you can just trust yourself to remember to drag a copy of each and every important document to backup every time you create or modify it. However, this can become tedious and oftentimes you will forget to do it. It is better to have a software application automatically backup your documents for you. Some operating systems, such as Windows Vista automatically come with backup software. If your operating system does not come with a backup solution, no worries, there are plenty of great ones available for backing up selected files and folders, all files of a particular type, and more.

5 ways to Keep your Computer Virus Free

.!.
.!.

computerEverybody uses computers. Often times, people view and store important documents and private information on their computers. Unfortunately, the biggest problem with using a computer is the potential for obtaining a computer virus. Computer viruses can attack your computer and get access to all your private and important information. Thus, you must take steps to protect your computer. Below are five ways to help keep your computer virus-free. If you have questions or need assistance with your computer, contact Nextora. We provide superior IT support in San Diego and can help you protect your computer and private information.

  1. Install reliable anti-virus software – Having reliable anti-virus software on your computer is extremely important. It can protect you against viruses during all computing activities, such as basic web surfing, email reading, attachment opening, downloading, and more. Anti-virus software regularly scans files for unusual changes and it should constantly be running on your computer while your computer is in use. Commonly used anti-virus software includes McAfee VirusScan and Norton Anti-Virus. There are also some free or inexpensive options, such as AVG Anti-Virus.
  2. Don’t download programs from the Internet HD transporter 3

    – Downloading from the internet is the number one way to infect your computer. This doesn’t mean all downloading is off limits. You just have to be very cautious about what you download and from where you download.  Internet newsgroups and questionable web sites are common unreliable sources. Avoid downloading files you can’t be sure are safe, for example various freeware, screensavers, games, and any other executable programs. When you do have to download from the Internet, be sure to scan each program with anti-virus software before running the downloaded program on your computer. You can easily keep track of your downloads and scan them by saving them all to one designated folder.

  3. Scan all floppies before using them – Simply run a virus scan before launching any of the programs on the disk you want to use. This should prevent infection.
  4. Don’t automatically open email attachments – This can’t be stressed enough. A common way for computer hackers to infect your computer is with a virus sent to you in an email.  Please note that if you get an email with an attachment from a friend, do not assume it’s harmless. Many viruses are spread by automatically sending themselves to the addresses found in a victim’s email address book. In other words, an infected email can purport to be from someone you know tempting you to open any attachments. Additionally, virus emails often include a message body that looks like a personal message from your friend. So, if you are unsure about an attachment, simply delete the email. This is particularly true if it’s from a source you do not recognize, but you shouldn’t be opening those emails anyways. Be sure your email settings do not allow for automatic downloading of attachments. Additionally, be sure your virus software settings are always set to automatically scan emails for viruses. Most email programs check for viruses and potentially dangerous images and attachments and will notify you of issues. Pay attention to these notifications.
  5. Update your anti-virus software frequently

секс со звуками – Anti-virus software programs are only as good as the frequency with which they are updated. Because new viruses, worms, and Trojan horses are born daily, and variations of them can slip by software that is not current, you must frequently update your anti-virus software.

download race to witch mountain

Unfortunately, even with proper protection and caution a computer virus can somehow still infect your computer. So, just in case a virus finds its way to your computer, be prepared with a back-up system. You can use software or an external hard drive to create a backup copy of your computer’s internal hard drive and all your pertinent information. This way, if your computer is attacked, you can revert to a clean, undamaged, virus-free version of your computer. Also, it is wise, particularly if you have a network of computers, you are a business owner with several computers and users, or you are just having trouble with your computer to contact Nextora’s IT support. Our San Diego Computer Consultants can help you. Feel free to contact us at 858-863-4175.

Computer Building Checklist – How To Build a Custom Computer

computer-componentsWhile purchasing a pre-configured computer system is common, building one’s own customized computer is becoming increasingly popular. In order to build a computer, a person will need some computer knowledge, patience, and various computer parts (hardware). By building your own computer as opposed to buying a pre-configured one, you will be able to create a custom machine that matches your specific wants and needs, you will enable yourself to easily upgrade your computer in the future because you will understand your system in and out, you may be able to save some money, you will learn all about computers and familiarize yourself with computer components, and more. If you are thinking about building your own computer, here is a brief computer building checklist for your reference.

  • Step One: The first step in building a computer is deciding what type of computer you want to build. There are many possibilities and you should make your choice keeping several things in mind. For example:
    • Who will be using the computer (you, your spouse, business partners, employees, kids, etc.)
    • What will users be using the computer for (research, writing, project creation, etc.)
    • Where will the computer be used (business, home office, bedroom, living room, etc.)
  • Step Two

    стриптиз группа мартовские коты

: The next step, and really the basis for your customized computer, is choosing the Motherboard. There are hundreds of motherboards to choose from and each has its own advantages and disadvantages, so you will want to research motherboards in depth. Once you have chosen your motherboard, you are ready to choose all the other computer parts, and then start putting all everything together.

  • Step Three: The third step may be considered the most fun step. This is when you get to choose all the computer hardware that you’ll need as well as all the extra fun parts you want (such as webcams, scanners, etc). Below is a non-exhaustive list of computer parts you may need to build your custom computer:
    • CPU (Central Processing Unit) – this must be of the right brand and right pin configuration to fit with your motherboard. You can also purchase as Motherboard/CPU package. The CPU is more or less the brain of your computer. You must get a motherboard that matches the CPU you want.
    • RAM (Random Access Memory) – this also must be of the correct pin configuration to be compatible with your motherboard. The amount of RAM you get is important for running your operating system (discussed below) and other programs. Many operating systems require at least 32MB (Megabytes) of RAM, but you should invest in much more to ensure your system runs smoothly.
    • Optical Drive

      – basically this refers to CD-ROM drives, which allow you to listen to CDs and watch DVDs. However, you can also purchase drives capable of burning DVDs and CDs.

    • Hard Disk Drive (Hard Drive) – this holds all your data and it must be compatible with the specific motherboard you choose. You will want to ensure you choose one with enough GB (gigabytes) to store all the information you want. A good rule of thumb is to never get less than a 20GB drive.
    • Operating System – the most common operating system is Windows. Linux is another popular option.
    • Keyboard – an important piece to your computer puzzle. There are several keyboards to choose from. Be sure to get one that is compatible with the rest of your computer. And, choose a keyboard that is comfortable for you. Nowadays, there are ergonomic computer keyboards that are comfortable and help prevent injuries related to computing (such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome).
    • Mouse – you can get really detailed with your mouse, or just go with a standard, inexpensive mouse. Yu can get a mouse with no buttons, a one-click mouse, a two-button mouse, a mouse with a ball, an optical mouse, and more. It just depends on what you like and how much money you would like to spend.
    • Monitor – this also really depends on what you like and how much money you are willing to spend. You can invest in a nice, expensive, big, flat screen monitor, or you can get an inexpensive traditional monitor. And, there are several monitors in between the two ends of the spectrum. Note that the larger the screen, the easier on your eyes your monitor will be and this should be taken into account, particularly if you plan to be on your computer for several hours a day.
    • Miscellaneous – speakers, printer, scanner, sound card, floppy drive, zip drive, modem, and webcam.
  • Step Four : This is the step that may take a lot of patience, but it can also be very fun and you will learn a lot about computers. This is the step where you get to put all the parts you bought together and build your ideal computer.
  • Step Five: Enjoy your brand new customized computer. And, contact Nextora if you have any questions or concerns about your computer.

  3. Spyware

Getting rid of adware, malware, Trojans, spyware and other harmful viruses that might be present in your computer will do wonders for increasing the speed and performance of your PC. Cleaning up harmful bugs sometimes requires more than Norton or Macafee. Spybot S&D and Superantispyware are two great, free online malware removal programs you can use. Download one of these and run an update and full system scan on your computer. This will take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on how many files your computer has. Once it’s done, however, you will be rid of harmful bugs and viruses and your computer will run much better.

  4. Disk Defrag

Lastly, run your Disk defragmenter. You can access this option via the Windows Start menu. To get there go from the Start menu to Programs, then to Accessories, then to System Tools, and finally o Disk Defragmenter. You can create a desktop icon for this application the same way you did for the Disk Cleanup option. Simply drag and drop. Once you open the Disk Defragmenter you’ll have the options of analyzing or defraging your C: drive. Chose the analyze option first. Your computer will then tell you whether you need to defrag your computer or not. If you do need to defrag your computer, go ahead and do so. The process can take a few hours, but you can leave the program running as you work on other things. It will close automatically upon completing its task.

Internet Explorer 8 vs. Firefox 3

.!.

Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox recently released new beta versions of their latest internet browsers, IE 8 and Firefox 3. Most PC owners today use one of the two browsers, and proponents of each cling tightly to their belief in the other’s inferiority. But aside from personal preferences and fan loyalty, how do these two browsers compare objectively? Below is a rundown of some of the most interesting additions made to IE 8 and Firefox 3 and how the two beta versions fare in relation to each other.

Internet Explorer 8

ie8-screenshotIE 8’s most interesting new feature is its “Web Slices” option. These is a more user-friendly version of RSS, basically, and is designed to allow web developers to assign parts of their sites as “sliceable”. This means that updates to that selected area are accessible to people visiting the site via individual tabs. Facebook statuses, for example, can be made “sliceable” so that a pull-down tab is added to IE 8’s browser that allows you to see the three most recent status updates along with their pictures. “Web Slices” is not technically a new tool, since RSS was already there and perfectly usable. IE 8’s new feature is more of a slick repackaging.

“Activities” is another new feature on IE 8. It lets you ad actions to the browser menu, actions like “Send to dig” and “Share on MySpace”. It’s a handy enough option, but “Search with Live Sear” is the only “activity” action included in the installation. Early tests of this feature resulted, many times, in Javascript errors, but then again it was a beta version. The real problem is that IE’s new and admittedly useful feature is available on Firefox already.

Crashes

The integration of an “Automated Crash Recovery” system into the new version of IE 8 is probably the browser’s most standout new feature. Automated Crash Recovery makes it so that each IE window and tab is run by a separate Windows process. Thus, if one tab or window crashes, you can terminate the process without having to completely close and restart Internet Explorer.

Overall

IE 8 is a decent step up from IE 7. Its Crash Recovery feature is especially useful and it is secure as always. Its Web Slices feature will not likely catch on, unless websites start using it more. RSS does the job already and doesn’t depend on user’s having to install a specific browser.

The biggest no-show in IE 8 is the download manager. Firefox has had one since the beginning and it is useful enough that other browsers have picked up the idea. IE, however, seems intent on ignoring users’ demands for a simple, easy-to-use download manager.

On the plus side, the lower memory and CPU overheads are a huge plus. IE 8 continues to be less demanding on computers than Firefox, so it is perfect for neophyte computer users and those worried about slowing down their machines if said machines are already struggling with not enough memory space.

Overall, IE still has the reliability advantage. Anti-crash features and the fact that it’s compatible with most corporate VPN software makes IE 8 ideal for the business environment. But this latest beta version has a ways to go still.

Mozilla Firefox 3

firefox3-screenshotExcessive RAM consumption has been one of the main problems with the Firebox browser since its initial conception. It’s not uncommon to hear about Firefox 2 using up a half gigabyte of RAM, even on above-average machines. The internet browsing experience can be completely ruined if this happens on slower computers. But Firefox 3 has made a fairly good attempt at curving the memory usage problem. Firefox 3comsumes a daily RAM average of about 120 MB, fairly high still, but definitely more manageable, though not as good as IE 8.

Firefox 3 also has new bookmarking features that make it simpler for users to add sites as favorites and organize them. A simple “star” button allows for one-click bookmarks, and the Bookmarks Manager has also been updated. Sorting through links and tagging has been improved, and browser load times have been reduced to improve overall performance.

Add-Ons

Firefox is known for its wide variety of add-on options. Firefox 3 now includes an add-ons manager, so that you can search for, download and manage add-ons without having to go to the Mozilla website

Firefox remains the browser of choice for many users. It has a ton of great features and its revised bookmarking system along with the new add-ons manager will get many users excited about version 3.0.  It still takes up more RAM than other browsers, but it has made steps in the right direction

The fact that Firefox 3 remains an open source program appeals to many users and especially programmers. Anyone can make changes to the Firefox source code to fit their individual needs.
